Trilife Kit

Each Trilife circuit board controls a single LED and plugs into three neighbors. An array of boards produces spiral waves based on a simple rule: turn your light on if one or more of your neighbors is on —then fade out.  The 10-component Trilife soldering kit is designed for large groups learning to solder. The open design enables anyone to enlarge an existing Trilife array.

Cindy Harnett is an associate professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Louisville. She is a founding member of Louisville hackerspace LVL1, and in 2012 began a National Science Foundation-funded program where engineering students spend semester-long internships working on projects there.
